Whenever I meet new people at markets when I have my Serpent Sisters on display, I get two reactions.  Either people are drawn in by them, or repulsed.

Once, I had a woman actively recoil when she realized that the ring she was admiring was a tiny snake!  The push & pull of our instinctive reactions to snakes is FASCINATING to me.... I have a similar bone deep reaction whenever I stumble across a snake in real life!  I will have a split second "Oh Holy Crap it's a snake!" moment before my brain finishes processing what I'm looking at before the "Aww coooool, it's a snake!" settles in.

(I live in Canada where the wildest snake we have is a garter snake, measuring no more than a foot and a half long and posing zero threat to me and mine.  I suspect my reaction would be significantly different if I lived in a part of the world where a snake bite could harm me.  I don't think garter snakes even have teeth??  Don't quote me on that!)

Because ultimately, once my lizard brain has finished warning me of my ancestral danger and chills out, my conscious brain is a bit obsessed with them.
Serpents and snakes represent rebirth, renewal, transformation and healing.  The idea that you can shed old ideas and beliefs to grow into your most evolved and incredible self.  That you can stretch and learn and become something new.
How unbelievably cool is that?
There are examples of serpent jewellery dating back THOUSANDS of years and humans have always looked for symbolism and representation in nature.
My Serpent Sister collection started a decade ago, when I started making my brass bangles, and has evolved over the years into what it is today;  A coil of sweet designs that are delicate, feminine, beautiful and a little badass.
I keep designing serpents and I keep enjoying it, so you can expect to see more from me as I continue to explore these themes and motifs.
